The SCOA Shuttle - is the only full service mountain bike shuttle service serving: Mt Wilson, Red Box and Charlton Flats. We operate all day on weekends (5:30AM, 7AM, 8:30AM, 10:30AM and 4PM) and most mornings early 6AM during the week; other times by appointment.
Mt. Wilson is easy to find, at 5,715 feet it is visible throughout the LA Basin. None of that will matter much when you point your mountain bike down one of the many trails Mt. Wilson offers. Imagine riding down almost 10 miles of sinuous, single track, with an elevation loss of almost 5,000! The best part – you don’t have to drive out of town to get to it!
For the downhill enthusiast, try Markham Saddle or the Mt. Wilson Observatory Parking Lot –either point offers steep, challenging single-track top to bottom. For the cross-country enthusiast, the backside of Mt. Wilson offers varied terrain including the downhill stuff Mt. Wilson is famous for but also some great climbs and transitions. A few of the trails can take you all the way to Azusa, some 20 miles away. The beginner can ride the world famous Mt. Wilson Toll Road a 9.5 mile fire road that starts at 5,600 feet and doesn’t stop until you get into the city of Altadena some 4,000 feet below.
Regardless of which way you go, the best part is getting picked up at the bottom and brought right back to the top! That’s right our convenient shuttle service makes mountain biking Mt. Wilson all day a reality.
The concept: it is simple, your shuttle driver will pick you up at one of our designed pick up places and drive you and your bike to - Markham Saddle, Mt. Wilson Observatory Parking Lot, Red Box, Charlton Flats or Mt. Hilyer.
From there you will ride to the bottom and get picked up to do it all over again! There are multiple ways down. Some as short as 4 to 5 miles others as long as 2-3 hours. While the focus is gravity assisted downhill, there are plenty of XC riding trails that offer challenging climbs.
Why shuttle? It saves you time and money. Drive times from our pickup locations to the top are 30-50 minutes one way and 60 - 100 minutes round trip. If you don't have a desgnated drier, you will spend at a minimum of two hours driving up and down. With us - if you catch the 7AM shuttle, you can be back down, in your car and getting on with the day by 9:30.
Where are the drop-off locations? Markham Saddle (aka Tunnel), and Mt. Wilson Observatory Parking Lot. The 10:30 and 12 noon pickups are multi-run. Your driver will take you to either Red Box for a run to Switzers or to Charlton Flats for a run to Upper Big Tujunga Canyon. Riders can expect to complete 3-5 runs before being dropped off at either Mt. Wilson Observatory Parking Lot or Markham Saddle for a run back to their car. The 10:30 and 12 noon runs are 5-6 hours of riding. Bring fluids and food to sustain yourself for the extended period of time.
What are the pickup times? Monday through Thursday: 6AM - other times on demand (5 rider minimum) Saturday and Sunday: 7AM, 9AM, 10:30AM and 3:30PM.
What is the cost? $15. The 10:30 shuttle is $40. We recommend reserving your spot online. You can also pay with and ATM/Debit/Credit card over the phone or at the van. Of course cash is accepted to.
