Overview: Do you like shows like Man vs. Wild and Survivorman? Ever considered or wished you had the skills to survive overnight in the case of an unfortunate outdoor event that left you stranded away from help? Then join us this weekend for an Introduction to Wilderness Survival and Plant Uses course. We are fortunate to receive this course at an awesome group rate specifically offered for SCOA members! We will be instructed by a leading outdoor school in Southern California. The instructors are specialists in the local environment and in primitive survival techniques. We will need at least 12 commitments to make this happen and a there is a maximum of 20, which I don't think will be that tough a task as many of you expressed interest in this event. Don't miss your opportunity to sign up!!! The Plan: This will be a two day event - Saturday and Sunday. We will carpool/drive/meet there early Saturday morning, attend the Survival Wilderness course, and camp in a campsite Saturday night. Sunday, break down camp and then attend the Plant Uses course. You will need to provide your own food and camping equipment (No alcohol is allowed at this event, as per the request of the host). If needed, equipment can be rented at places such as REI or Adventure 16. I have found Adventure 16 to be the cheaper of the two. If there is extreme fire danger, all campgrounds may even be closed so we would have to reschedule. We should know the fire regulations and status at least a week or more in advance.
