Finally - Memorial Day Weekend is upon us and the Big 5 Outdoor Sale is on.  Yes I said it Big 5.  Sure many of you shop at Adventure 16, IER and Chalet of Outdoor Activities, they are great stores and they generally have a better selection of gear.  But do not count out, Big 5.  If you know what you are looking for and they have it - it is a good place to start.

With that said, 90% of the email, I get surrounds tents.  Which tent should you get and where?  Unless you are camping in the snow or in conditions with 100 mile an hour wind or need a super light tent for backpacking a $60 Coleman tent should cover it.

Coleman, really?  Yes really!  We spent 14 days in the Ecuadorian Rainforest.  The first 10 days, we only saw people in our expedition.  It rained - heavy everyday.  We moved locations everyday.  I slept every-night in a Coleman.  I stayed dry as did my gear and I slept well.  (Note the Coleman tent to the right of the video).  My Coleman goes with to Santa Cruz Island, river rafting the Kaweah and to mountain Mt. Pinos.

Here is a link to the flyer

Depending on what part of the country you are in, there are several sizes available.  A $60 Coleman is a great place to start.  They have some less expensive ones but I have never been in one.  Do not expect the retail person there to know much about their products but you can always ask.

When you take the tent home, take it out of the box and set it up.  I cannot tell you how many times people have shown up with an incomplete tent set up.  Open the box, pull out the parts list and build the tent.

That has been my experience with Coleman Tents.  What has been your experience with tents?
