Last weekend we went up to Mammoth with two friends, Callie and Greg. We stayed at a friend's condo in the mountains and took a day trip up Sand Canyon.
Going up the trail was great fun, following a 10 year old child on a dirtbike. He was having trouble and we all found it very cute when his rear tire dug a hole in the sand and you could tell that he was very flustered with us behind him.
Our arrival at the "unnamed lake" was a good signal for lunch. We unpacked and hung out by the lake which we named "Callie's Lake". We think we may have spotted Bigfoot while taking photos. We were the only group there! It was breathtaking!
On the way back from the lake, unfortunately while Sam was driving, the tie rod broke loose. This means that one wheel turned one direction while the other wheel turned the other direction (as can be seen in the photo).
Needless to say, we crashed. We fixed it with wire since we were at the bottom of the trail (thank goodness) and made it back up to the town of Mammoth where we stopped at a hardware store for all the supplies we needed.
Post-adventure drinks and dinner were had at Whiskey Creek. The next day we slept in, made a big breakfast and packed some sandwiches for the adventure home. Why was it an adventure driving home? We stopped and drove through the Alabama Hills and on Movie Road!
